Poor Hospital Refuse Disposal a Health Threat

Poor management of waste from health facilities may be one of the major causes of the country’s big disease burden, as health care workers may not have the necessary training, and health care facilities may not have adequate supplies of clean syringes or reliable systems for disposal, as a result exposing health workers, patients, and communities to unnecessary risk and contributing to the estimated 23.5 million new HIV, Hepatitis C infection transmitted every year through needle re-use and accidental needle stick injuries.
