Controversial Drug Re-Ignites Abortion Debate

The controversial drug misoprostol which has been used to stop post-birth bleeding and clean the uterus especially when unsafe abortions have taken place is being pushed by the Kenya obstetrical and gynecological society to have the tablets dispensed to pregnant women with the aim of curbing bleeding after birth . But the Director of Public Health says the injectable drug; oxytocin is the primary mode of treatment as there have been fears that the tablets would be abused to procure abortion.
